How to sex a leopard gecko.

Fortunately, it is quite easy to determine whether you have a male or female leopard gecko, however, sometimes it’s not obvious until the gecko is about 3-6 months of age. Don’t let the thumbnail scare you, the video isn’t graphic at all.

All about female leopard geckos

Female leopard geckos are so interesting they get a dedicated video. I look at a range of things that affect only female leopard geckos. Despite these ‘issues’, don’t let this put you off getting a female leopard gecko.

Do all female leopard geckos lay eggs?

On my channel, I have documented my female leopard geckos laying infertile eggs over the years. They’re infertile because my geckos have never been bred with. Oftentimes when I post content like this I get questions like, ‘But why hasn’t my gecko laid any eggs yet?’ or ‘Do all females lay eggs?’ So I decided to make this video.

Leopard gecko egg-laying video.

There are quite a few videos on my channel where I document myself discovering eggs, however, on this occasion, I managed to film my leopard gecko laying eggs, and these were giant!

Follicular stasis.

This is an illness that affects females only. It has to do with eggs, and if left untreated will be fatal. Though, it is quite rare, it is good to be aware of such a condition, just so you can look out for early symptoms and act promptly.

Clogged femoral pores.

Now for males, though they can suffer a few health issues with their hemipenes, I’ve yet to make a video on such issues. However, I did make a video on what to do if you find your gecko’s femoral pores become clogged.

Breeding and Genetics.

I’m not a big fan of casually breeding your geckos - especially geckos that are sickly or you are unaware of their genetic history. However, many years ago I did make this video all about genetics.
